Our Altar Society works behind the scenes maintaining ceremonial objects and keeping the altar area clean. We procure items used in liturgical celebrations, including the candles, altar breads and wine. The Altar Society polishes the candle holders, censer, and brass vessels used during the liturgy.
The Altar Society is also responsible for our parish funeral lunches. If a parish family requests this, we provide and serve a simple lunch for the parishioners, family members, and friends who gather to honor a loved one.
As members of Altar Society, parishioners donate a few hours a week for one month out of the year. Dues are $10 per year and cover the cost of all liturgical supplies. All parish households are encouraged to participate.
If you would like to help or have questions, please contact Lucille Guettinger 509-334-2628.
We invite all women of the parish to join Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), one of the oldest and largest organizations for Catholic women in the Americas. CDA Court Sacred Heart #2104 usually meets the third Tuesday of the month in the Social Hall at 6:30 pm, September through June. Meetings include a business portion, food, fellowship, and spirituality.
We are responsible for many parish activities: the Baked Potato Blast, the Christmas Bake Sale, Dinners for Eight, and the Easter Egg Hunt. We also help with our parish Lenten Prayer, Bread & Soup, parish auctions and dinners. We participate in Washington State Catholic Daughters activities, such as the biannual convention. As Catholic Daughters, we look to our Blessed Mother to guide us as we attempt to minister to our parish and the larger world.
Any woman in the parish who is looking to grow in faith, friendship and volunteerism, should contact Betty Klover, financial secretary, at 509-595-5480, or Sandra Holderby, Regent, at 360-751-2406. We look forward to meeting you!

Mission Statement of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas
If you know of someone who is in need of “Helping Hands” please contact the Parish office 509-332-5312 or email Sue McNamara. This will allow the office to contact the family and extend an offer of “Helping Hands".
Join approximately 80 Catholic men who are actively practicing their faith, parishioners of Sacred Heart, Pullman and St. Thomas More, Washington State University. The organization supports the parish programs, like religious education, Vacation Bible School, the Youth Group and their annual mission trip, and PREPARES which supports women and families through pregnancy to the child's fifth birthday. We also support charitable programs, like Coats for Kids which gives winter coats to local school age children from limited-income families and local food banks including the Schoool Pantry; as well as seminarians and religious, scholarships for parish youth, and numerous outreach programs.
For more information, please contact Mark Thomas, Grand Knight, at [email protected] or 509-592-5604.
Catholic social teaching reminds us we are interconnected and that even our social, political, and economic institutions have a deep effect on people's lives. Our Social Justice Ministry works with the rest of the parish to help us see and listen to our brother or sister in need. We do this through education (studying how loving our neighbor plays out in our social institutions), through advocacy (working for the poor and vulnerable in the political arena), and through direct action (organizing food drives, clothing collections, and supporting refugees ). See the parish social justice webpage
We usually meet the first or second Thursday of the month. If you would like to join the Social Justice Ministry, watch the bulletin for meeting times or call Tim Paulitz at 509-332-6184 or Francy Bose at 509-332-5114.
What is a Vocation?
See the Spokane Diocese Vocation Page for an excellent explanation.
What is the Sacred Heart Vocation Ministry and what do we do?
The Sacred Heart Vocation Ministry came into existence in February 2017 to bring awareness of OUR call to God. Its purpose is to create an environment at Sacred Heart which allows everyone to grow in holiness by providing resources and activities to do God’s work on Earth. And, we all can start now simply with prayer.
How am I called to serve? If you would like help discerning your vocation, please contact your parish priest. In Pullman, contact Fr. Steve Dublinski at Sacred Heart Parish, or Fr. Paul Heric at St. Thomas More Catholic Student Center at WSU.
From Pope Francis:
Vocations promotion is the responsibility of every Catholic, and each of us must follow the same steps Jesus used as we engage with all His children, young and old.
